Remind Yourself...Everyday

Everyday it is important that we remember our self-worth. It has taken me a long time to get to that point where I can sit back and I say that I am worth this. I am worth loving, I am worth taking care of and I am worth taking the time for.

This blog is my way of staying connected to my friends and family with updates on my progress without constantly hounding them with information on the day-to-day weight loss struggles. (I don't so much mind sharing the successes :)

Staying accountable, staying lighthearted and staying focused on what is really important has been a lifelong struggle for me. I am ready to kick my own ass and finally lose those last pounds to my goal.

Stay strong, stay fit, stay happy.

*Funny thing about that photo....I remember when I was 28....I can't believe I'm going to be 30 in June! Where has the time gone?!

Yum!

So today I am home, still under the weather. This head pressure is absolutely killer! Anyway, I have made myself some yummy meals so far!

I was looking through the recommended recipes in the Self Magazine challenge and found a smoothie with bananas, spinach, flaxseed and soy milk. I didn't have all of those things so I adapted. I made a Berry-Green Smoothie...1 cup skim milk, 1 cup fresh baby spinach, 1 cup frozen berries and a tsp of honey. Blend it up and it's delicious! If I had kids, this is totally how I would sneak their veggies in.

On to lunch...Self has a "BLTA "on their menu for lunch. Whole grain bread, 2 oz turkey, lettuce, tomato, 2 slices turkey bacon and 1/5 of a mashed avocado with dijon mustard and lime juice. I added cilantro to mine and it was a great addition. The dijon was a little overpowering so the cilantro was a good balance. I highly recommend this lunch if you have the time to make a lunch at home and really you could put this together at work if you have a microwave for the bacon and a toaster for the bread. The mashed avocado is great and I can't eat mayo so its a perfect alternative for sandwiches.

I am feeling really great on the food front and looking forward to another day of healthy eating. I as supposed to meet my trainer at the gym today but I think it's best to give myself another day of rest. There is nothing worse than feeling like your head is going to explode and having your heart rate up at the same time.

Hope everyone has a healthy, fit, happy Friday!

Reflection keeps you honest...

My reminder to keep going!

Hard at Work

So the Self Challenge is going well! Minus the Subway people trying to sabotage me with an oil covered sandwich. That's a story for another day:)

I have been taking photos of everything I eat and sending it to my friend Jennie in order to keep me on the straight and narrow and so far its working! Since you are asking a good friend to fill their inbox with pictures of your food you are a little more careful to not eat mindlessly. I have been surprised so far to realize that I was more worried about being a "bother" than her actually scolding me for what I eat. I think that's pretty telling...

As far as the Self Challenge itself, the tools are super interactive and easy to use and the recipes are well-balanced and full of variety for the cook or the person on the go. The water tracker is nice. I'm a huge water drinker though and I run out of glasses to click :) My calorie count for yesterday was 1452 and I only used about 80 "Happy Calories" and I spent them on a latte at Starbucks. I am interested to see how I do on the weekend when I have a few drinks and go out with friends.

The workouts they provide seem like they would be useful. I work with a personal trainer and do cardio on my own so I don't think I will be using their exercises much. I wish I could kick this cold though because it is really messing up my workouts this week. First I missed training on Monday because I got stuck for an hour and a half in traffic and I worked out yesterday but damn near passed out so I decided to take a break today. Hopefully I will feel up to walking tomorrow.

Today marks just 87 days until my 30th birthday and 121 days until my favorite girls and I leave for Miami to celebrate!

Self Challenge

So I've lost a ton of weight, hit a plateau, gained a few back and am rehabing a bad left hip...It's been an interesting turn of events in the past year.

It is time to get back in the saddle and hit the weightloss hard before 30 comes knocking on my door in June. What better way to do this than to follow the Self Drop 10 Challenge.

Here's how it works:

1350 calories a day (Breakfast-Lunch-Dinner) and 1750 "Happy Calories" for the week. I will come here each week to weigh in on my progress and see how I like the plan. More than counting calories I will be picking and choosing meals they have come up with.

Along with this plan I have instituted a way of policing myself...I am photographing everything I eat and sending it to my best friend in New Jersey. If things get out of hand I know she will hop a plane to Pittsburgh, beat me with my own cupcake and teach me a lesson about where not to go back to!

For the record I ate 3 raisins and sent her a text instead of a photo...I didn't feel 3 raisins were photo worthy, but if I eat 3 raisins twenty times a day we might need to change something. :)

Of course I will be continuing my personal training, hip rehab and my own "Happy-Hip, Back to Running" plan I have instituted. That is a whole lot of plan! I am sure I will narrow down the path as I settle back into a weight loss routine instead of a maintenance/light gain plan I'm currently chained to.

Here's to getting those last pounds off and getting to my goal... :)

PS-Happy Spring!

I love these ladies...
